The main change to the motorcycle test is the Direct Access age is going up from 21 to 24. There are also stepped licences so younger candidates may have to take up to 3 tests in order to obtain a full category A licence.
- – From 17 & 18 years of age, you can take a test on a Category A1 (125cc bike) and are limited to that size after completion.
- – From 19 to 24, you can take a test on a Category A2 (395cc bike) and are limited to that size after completion. You will also need a CBT & Theory Test.
- – After 2 Years of experience on an A2 License (you must be aged 21-23) you can then take a test to ride a bike of any size.
- – At age 24 you can take a test on a Catagory A unrestricted bike, of at least 595cc and 40kW engine power. CBT and Theory Test required.
If this all sounds rather confusing… it is. The DSA have brought in these regulations & have no definitive list of bikes that will comply! If in doubt contact us and we will guide you through the rules.
